Cascal Fermented Soda Giveaway

“Crisp White” has notes of pear, apricot, and magnolia, and pairs well with Brie, sushi, or strawberry ice cream.

I’ve probably said it before, but I am really not a fan of soda.  All soda-related health concerns aside, it does nothing to quench my thirst.

I recently heard about a soft drink called Cascal.  It’s a natural soft drink so I was willing to try it, thinking it would be like a carbonated juice drink (similar to Izze products), which I much prefer over regular soda.  But when I found out that Cascal was made with fermented juices, it sounded different from any product I’d had and I couldn’t contain my excitement in trying it.

Last year when Mike and I were in the Middle East visiting his family, my mother-in-law introduced me to fermented foods…after that I wondered how I went so long without knowing about fermentation.  She taught me how to make several different kinds of lacto-fermented pickles, as well as the best homemade vinegar (both grape and apple) you can imagine (recipes for both pickles and vinegar are in my book!).  Fermented foods not only taste amazing, but have a whole host of health benefits as well (if you’re interested, you can read more about lacto-fermentation on Nourishing Days.)  I haven’t had time yet, but lacto-fermented sauerkraut has been on my bucket list to make for a while now.

“Berry Cassis” has notes of black currant, tangerine, and lemon, and pairs well with tandoori chicken or hummus and pita chips.  It was also fantastic paired with my Spanakopita Puffs.

So, back to Cascal.  I got to try all five flavor blends (and so will one lucky reader!):  Ripe Rouge, Crisp White, Bright Citrus, Berry Cassis, and Fresh Tropical.  I loved each one.  They were the perfect refreshment on a hot day – light and bubby, each with complex unique flavor and not at all too sweet.  My favorite flavor was the Fresh Tropical; Cascal says this flavor has notes of mango, jasmine, & Kaffir lime, and pairs well with pad Thai, BBQ sandwiches, or mango salsa with tortilla chips.

They give flavor pairing suggestions like this for each blend, which I thought was a nice touch.  It takes the drink beyond something you’d drink just for the sake of drinking, and brings it into the realm of something you’d drink because it enhances what you’re eating, like wine or even tea or coffee, in certain instances.

Fresh Tropical, my favorite flavor.

If this sounds like something you want to try, you’re in luck.  Cascal is providing a prize pack containing all five flavors (Ripe Rouge, Crisp White, Bright Citrus, Berry Cassis, and Fresh Tropical) for one reader!

You do not need to have a blog to enter this giveaway!  To participate, you can do any of the following (please leave a separate comment for each so I can count them as separate entries):
