My sister and I both vividly remember trips to the grocery store with our mom when we were kids. Funnily enough, there was nothing at all very memorable about them – we spent the majority of those grocery runs waiting in the car.
Each and every time, it seemed like my mom took not only longer than anyone else going in (and we knew because we kept track! We had to entertain ourselves somehow), but even longer than she’d taken the previous time. I’m sure she must have broken record after record on how long it can take to shop when you’re just getting one small bag of groceries (or “only running in for just a couple things!”, as she’d always say).
As an adult, I can fully empathize with her and I don’t even have little ones running around! Everyone needs a moment to themselves to relax and recharge, especially during this hectic time of year. Come mid-afternoon I’m ready for a little break…and a steaming cup of coffee or tea is a pretty welcome treat.
I recently received a Keurig brewer to try and I was pretty excited; not only do I love a single cup of joe in the afternoon, but it was my first time trying this brewing system and I’d heard very good things about it.
I started with a cup of Barista Prima Coffeehouse Italian Roast. Now, first let me say, I don’t have my coffee first thing in the morning…coffee for me isn’t an I-need-caffeine-now-so-hit-me sort of thing. It’s an afternoon treat…an I-need-a-15-minute-break-and-I’d-like-to-sit-and-relax sort of thing. I like my coffee with balanced acidity, full-bodied, and smooth, but with a certain boldness too. A touch of natural sweetness means that I usually only add a little splash of skim milk (or if the touch of sweetness isn’t quite there naturally in the coffee, I’ll add a sprinkle of stevia).
So back to the coffee I tried. The Italian Roast was wonderful. I added a splash of skim, and then ended up adding just a touch of stevia to make it perfect for me. Then the next day I tried Gloria Jean’s Hazelnut Coffee; I thought it was fabulous as-is without anything added.
Mike opted for the Café Escapes Café Mocha. He said it was a perfect balance of flavor between coffee and chocolate. He thought I didn’t notice, but he went back for a second cup about an hour later. I think it’s safe to assume we’ll both be enjoying the brewer frequently. (And there are two new flavors out: Café Vanilla and Café Caramel! I’d love to try them, especially the vanilla.)
From November 28 through January 9, Café Escapes is running a Facebook promotion.
