Blackberry & Apple Crumble

If someone told you, Quick, name three Irish desserts!, my guess is that you’d name something with Guinness or Bailey’s Irish Cream.

Or something green, because Irish or not, any green treats are fair game for St. Paddy’s Day.

Friends, I have a new dessert idea.

Why not try a rustic apple crumble? It’s quite a humble dessert, but served with custard sauce for topping, it’s completely wonderful. And completely reminiscent of apple pie a la mode.

It’s easy to customize too. The original recipe in Irish Country Cooking (Sterling Epicure; 2014) called for blackberries, but I went with cranberries instead. Or you could go with walnuts instead of almonds, or even add a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg. No matter what, if you like pie, you’re sure to enjoy this rustic classic.
