Maple-Walnut Buckwheat Scones with Honeyed Sage Butter

Can I let you in on a little secret?  I’m not really sure how I feel about buckwheat.  (Probably not the best way to sell you on these scones, but I have to keep it real, right?)  This was the first time I baked with it, and actually, the first time I’ve knowingly had it (other than in soba noodles, which I do enjoy).  Buckwheat is so healthy, I wanted to like it, really I did.  But it’s just so…I don’t know…grassy, maybe?

Truth be told, cardboard-y is probably a better word. (more…)

This month’s 5 Star Makeover theme is “Gourmet Picnic Food” in honor of upcoming Memorial Day.  Since this theme is so wide open, I had a lot of fun with it and chose a more non-traditional picnic theme:  teatime!  For my picnic, pack a thermos full of tea (spiced black tea is fantastic with these scones!), some finger sandwiches, and these Olive Oil Scones with Cinnamon Figgie Butter… (more…)
