Thank you to General Mills for sponsoring this post. I like to make sure that my family gets as many veggies in as possible, even in unexpected places; along those lines, we enjoyed this Butternut Butterscotch Pudding and I hope your family does too.

Butternut Butterscotch Pudding

There is no food that reminds me of school lunches as a kid more than pudding does.

(Except maybe tunafish sandwiches, which were ubiquitous in my lunchbox, despite my pleading with my mom for something else. It was a rare happy occasion when a fluffernutter found its way in there, but when it did, what a bartering tool it was! It was the gold of the lunch table, and anyone was willing to give up anything to get it. But back to pudding.)

I think my mom thought chocolate was my favorite flavor (which would make sense…me and chocolate go way back) because it’s what she used to pack most frequently. But butterscotch was what I was really after, at least when it came to pudding. Heck, to me it was even worth trading a fluffernutter for.

I am happy for the opportunity to share products that I enjoy with my readers, and I hope you like my recipe for Stovetop Tuscan Mac and Cheese. There are the obvious sources of mealtime inspiration, like cookbooks, food magazines, and food blogs. There are friends’ recommendations, and remakes of restaurant favorites. But how often do we really go to our moms for recipe advice? (I mean after college anyway…my mom was my cooking guru during undergrad!)...

I want to start off telling you about one of my favorite new cookbooks by saying that this book is not just for sandwich-lovers! Autumnal Bounty

Thank you to Progresso® Artisan Soups for sponsoring this article. Follow the latest happenings at @ProgressoArtisan on Instagram. Moving to Kuwait has shown me that words I thought I understood the meaning of actually have a much more relative definition. Like “soon”. As in We’ll be over soon, we’re on our way now! Three hours and as many pots of Turkish coffee later, it’s apparent that “soon” has a different meaning here, lol. (And since you literally can drive from one end of Kuwait to the other in that amount of time, it also becomes apparent that unless they were either in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, or somewhere on the […]...

It’s been a strange summer for a million different reasons. I won’t bore you with the details (yet), but let’s start with the weather. First off, it’s felt like autumn for the past week or so now (especially in the unseasonably chilly evenings), and there were even brisk days in July that felt more like late rather than early summer. Not that I’m […]...

I am happy for the opportunity to share brands that I believe in with my readers, and I hope you enjoy my recipe for Savory Cheese Crackers with Hirten. Ring! Riinnngggg!! The telephone impatiently shrieked at me. Coming, coming! I was just as impatient with it as it was with me. The phone had been ringing off the hook all morning, with the majority of calls either being telemarketers or wrong numbers (why do these sort of calls always seem to come in batches?), and I was desperately trying to finish cleanup after a morning of […]...

When I was a kid, we used to go camping at my grandparents’ (on my dad’s side) cabin in Lake George, Canada. I’m using the word camping loosely because the cabin (what we all call The Island because my grandparents’ own the little island that the cabin is on) has electricity and running water, and along with it, a kitchen and bathroom for the full comforts of home – so I realize it isn’t really camping. It was nothing like the cabin that […]...

Fat Toad Farm’s Caramel {Giveaway}

DSC_7656(small)

Armed with a spoon in the kitchen can be a dangerous thing. Heading over to the pantry, there are things like peanut butter and coconut-vanilla syrup. And the fridge can be even more of a hot zone, housing spoon-able treats like pudding, custard, mousse, or jam. Or yogurt treats. And caramel. Always rich caramel, with its beautiful flavor notes....

(Image above courtesy of Staples.) Are you a coffee drinker or a tea drinker? Or maybe hot cocoa is more your thing.
