Keurig Coffee Maker & K-Cup Coffee Giveaway!

Keurig OfficePRO Single Cup(small)

(Image above courtesy of Staples.) Are you a coffee drinker or a tea drinker? Or maybe hot cocoa is more your thing. Whatever you drink that gets you going, it’s likely that you can brew it in a Keurig…I’ve even seen K-Cups for hot spiced cider and iced coffee! (I know, iced coffee. How I love you.) I’ve had a Keurig for about six months and I can tell you that it gets more than its fair share of use; we use it just about every day and sometimes more than once a day. I am absolutely thrilled to be giving away a Keurig!...

Pistachio + Rosemary White Pizza {And a Gourmet Oil + Vinegar Giveaway}

DSC_8534(small)

Never in a million years would I have thought that I would get excited about vinegar. Vinegar, of all things. Either my life has gotten that dull (lol!) or this vinegar is really that exciting. An eternal optimist, I’m going with scenario two. :) A couple months ago I received a few oil and vinegar samples from Vom Fass. Right away the name intrigued me; it means “from the cask” and it conjures up an old-world, artisanal feel, doesn’t it? I don’t know what I was expecting when I tried the samples, but whatever it was, everything I tried exceeded all my expectations. Scratch that; […]...

Irish Oatmeal with Hot Buttered Cinnamon Apples {Giveaway}

DSC_5522(small)

Have you ever had Irish oatmeal? Or maybe you know it by a different name, such as pinhead oats or steel-cut oats? If you’re not familiar, steel-cut oats are oats from which the inedible outer husk has been removed. The oat groats (the inner part of the oat kernels) are cleaned, and then chopped into three or four small pieces as they’re passed through steel cutters. Whatever you call it, this dish is a delicious and very healthy whole grain....

Mini Maple-Cinnamon-Walnut Turnover Cookies

Diamond_Logo

This year I wanted to come up with a healthier holiday cookie that doesn’t necessarily taste healthy. Something that I could serve to my family for dessert along with tea and coffee at one of my parents’ family dinners and have people be satisfied with dessert – not left wanting something else. I’ve been in the mood for Ma’amoul, which are Middle Eastern filled cookies. Perhaps the most common filling for these cookies is dates, but my mother-in-law also makes versions with walnuts and pistachios. For the walnut, she makes two different flavors: 1) cinnamon and 2) rose and orange blossom water-scented. The cinnamon-walnut are […]...

Roasted Carrot-Apple Soup with Paprika Brown Butter

Roasted Carrot-Apple Soup with Paprika Brown Butter 3

For about two years now I’ve been hearing the same mantra from one of my favorite foodie friends (who unfortunately isn’t a blogger – but perhaps one day!). Come on, everyone is doing it!, she coaxed. You know you want to! Grab some butter and don’t look back!...

Beyond Cow’s Milk

DSC_0023(small)

My mom was a serious milk-pusher when I was growing up.  Every night at dinner she made my sister and I drink a full glass, no excuses. (She didn’t care if the milk had gotten warm because I left it to sit for half an hour after dinner…or if I promised up one side and down the other that I had already drank milk in my cereal for breakfast, plus a little carton with lunch at school.) Milk-drinking was no light matter to her, lol! These days I still get my milk, but cow’s milk isn’t my first choice for drinking....

Quail Eggs {Giveaway}

DSC_7628(small)

Sometimes I wish I lived on a farm out in the country (or at least had the chance to spend a long weekend at one).  I could bask in nature, enjoy a little quiet.  (Ok, I know it’s only quiet until the animals start making noise…but I bet it beats the sound of sirens and car horns any day).  I’d wake up to birds chirping, sunshine streaming in my window, and the smell of fresh-mown grass.  Then I’d start my day with fresh milk and eggs, and maybe a loaf of country bread....

Healthy-Enough-For-Breakfast Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups {Giveaway — Tropical Traditions Organic Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil}

DSC_1617(small)

Do you remember a couple months ago when I made Mini Vanilla-Almond Cupcakes and gushed about Lisa’s blog?  (The cupcakes were healthy enough to be breakfast – really, how could I not be smitten?) Well, this treat is another of Lisa’s creations.  When I swooned over her recipe for Double Peanut Butter Chocolate Cups a while back and noticed that she mentioned they were healthy enough for breakfast, I knew it would not be long before they graced my kitchen....
