Lets talk a little about weekday lunches. (Because really, unless I have a lunch date out, lunch is usually my most boring meal of the day.)...
Roasted Carrot-Apple Soup with Paprika Brown Butter
For about two years now I’ve been hearing the same mantra from one of my favorite foodie friends (who unfortunately isn’t a blogger – but perhaps one day!). Come on, everyone is doing it!, she coaxed. You know you want to! Grab some butter and don’t look back!...
Beyond Cow’s Milk
My mom was a serious milk-pusher when I was growing up. Every night at dinner she made my sister and I drink a full glass, no excuses. (She didnt care if the milk had gotten warm because I left it to sit for half an hour after dinner or if I promised up one side and down the other that I had already drank milk in my cereal for breakfast, plus a little carton with lunch at school.) Milk-drinking was no light matter to her, lol! These days I still get my milk, but cows milk isnt my first choice for drinking....
Quail Eggs {Giveaway}
Sometimes I wish I lived on a farm out in the country (or at least had the chance to spend a long weekend at one). I could bask in nature, enjoy a little quiet. (Ok, I know it’s only quiet until the animals start making noise…but I bet it beats the sound of sirens and car horns any day). I’d wake up to birds chirping, sunshine streaming in my window, and the smell of fresh-mown grass. Then I’d start my day with fresh milk and eggs, and maybe a loaf of country bread....
Healthy-Enough-for-Breakfast Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups {Giveaway}
Healthy-Enough-for-Breakfast Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups are a decadent-tasting treat with a healthy ingredient list that will surprise you! Do you remember a couple months ago when I made Mini Vanilla-Almond Cupcakes and gushed about Lisa’s blog? (The cupcakes were healthy enough to be breakfast – really, how could I not be smitten?) Well, this treat is another of Lisa’s creations. When I swooned over her recipe for Double Peanut Butter Chocolate Cups a while back and noticed that she mentioned they were healthy enough for breakfast, I knew it would not be long before they graced my kitchen....
Hot Dogs, 3 Ways
Front to Back: Taco Dog, Hot Dog Topped with Crunchy Slaw with Almond & Apricot Dressing, and Hot Dog Topped with Indian-Spiced Onion Relish I don’t think regular hot dogs will ever cut it again!, my dad replied. He pushed back his chair, threw his napkin on his plate, and sighed contentedly. For my family, it’s not summer without a hot dog party, and now it’s not going to be a hot dog party without going all out. We’ve been spoiled. After all, it isn’t every barbeque that we make three different hot dog toppings! (It’s usually just ketchup, mustard, relish, and onion – “the […]...
A Lamb Feast
In many cultures, meat in general and lamb in particular is what you serve to guests…especially guests you really like! (Since it’s usually the most expensive part of the meal, serving meat demonstrates your hospitality.) I ate more lamb in the Middle East in just a couple months than I ate in the rest of my life combined. (Middle Easterners are a generous, hospitable group of people…lamb was on the menu often! Plus my hubby has a lot of family members, and each one wanted the chance to host us.) Stateside Mike and I generally don’t eat as much lamb, except during the Eid right […]...
Sea Island Coffee {Giveaway}
Are you one of those people who can drink coffee any time of day? Mike likes to joke that I drink coffee instead of warm milk at night to help me sleep…and while that isn’t exactly true, it is true that coffee doesn’t keep me awake. I joke that it’s because every time he and I visit the Middle East we chug countless pots of Turkish coffee at all hours of the day. :)...
Spinach-Mozzarella Grilled Cheese
With all the amazing looking grilled cheese recipes that have been floating around the internet recently you probably know that April is National Grilled Cheese month. I had no idea that such a thing existed until the lovely Jo-Lynne (of Musings of a Housewife) asked me if I wanted to create a grilled cheese recipe in honor of the occasion. (Of course I said yes. :) )...
Strawberry-Vanilla Smoothie
What is one thing you eat every single day? For me it’s cottage cheese and for Mike it’s yogurt (ironically, I’m also a big yogurt eater but he won’t touch cottage cheese with a 10 foot pole). That’s ok, I use the fact that he likes yogurt to my advantage. Namely, to get more fruits and veggies into him whenever I can....
