Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers! In honor of Mother’s Day this Sunday, I wanted to share my family’s Mother’s Day tradition. Every year we make my mom and dad a restaurant-quality meal and our whole family gets involved (we don’t do another meal like this for Father’s Day so our Mother’s Day celebration is really more of a Parents’ Day event). I plan the menus (which is my favorite part!) and do most of the shopping and cooking. Mike does the grilling, my brother is the waiter, my sister is the hostess, and my niece is the entertainment.
Every year the menu is different, but it always includes several courses, with some form of surf and turf as the main course. We also change the theme every year. This year the theme is Coastal Café so the menu is based on New England-y coastal fare. Here is this year’s menu:
(In the next few posts I’ll be sharing the recipes from the menu.)
Our decorations also change every year to reflect the theme. Here are some of the linens for the table setting this year:
I’m excited to say that Mother’s Day coincides with my blog’s anniversary…I actually started my blog last May right after last Mother’s Day to share the meal we made for my mom. This Mother’s Day my blog is turning 1! I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by and how much I’ve come to enjoy blogging. I want to send a huge thank-you to everyone who has encouraged and supported me, as well as a huge thank-you to my wonderful readers…honestly, you are the reason I write my blog. Here’s to many more happy years of blogging!
Happy Blogiversary!
Love your idea. I hope in the next couple of years my three get a little more creative with their “gifts”. it would be more memorable. The schools here don’t do anything anymore. :(

Faith> Happy first year. The pleasure has been all ours. We get to read your wonderful blog. I think it’s amazing you have made those gorgeous menus for the occasion… mothers will be thrilled and the menu.. well it sounds amazing. I can’t believe I’m almost at the 6 month point… it is too much fun, isn’t it!!!!
Wow, I love the idea! and you even had the menus printing out and laminated! Can’t wait to see the recipes!
Happy Blog Birthday, Faith!! How exciting! I’ve been loving your blog since I discovered it a few months ago. Here’s to many more years of happy blogging! :)
I’m so impressed with your Parents’ Day menu – so professional, with the actual menu and linens. Your parents are lucky people :) I can’t wait to see the recipes!
I was trying to figure out if that menu was from a restaurant that was pre-fix since there weren’t options for courses. That is so sweet you do that for your mom! I love that you show your appreciation in such a great way

This is a very cute idea! Your menu looks incredibly delicious…in fact I’m debating crashing your party! Can’t wait to see the recipes…
How fun. Our family does something similar. For the past twenty years the men in the family plan and prepare a Mother’s Day brunch. The kids provide the entertainment and serve as the wait staff. There is always a theme and party games to match the theme. One of the best was the Hawaiian brunch when the men wore grass skirt and coconut bras.

Congratulations! I definitely thought that your blog had been around much longer – since it is so perfect! I am a fan!
I love your Mother’s Day menu. I will need to hint to my daughters about your great idea!
Happy anniversary!Have a great weekend!
I love this idea Faith…so much better than going to an overpriced, overcrowded restaurant. I wish Maya could do this for me!!
Happy Blogiversary. Hope you have a great weekend.
What a fabulous menu! Everything souds delightful.
Happy Blogiversary and to many more!
Cheers,
Rosa
Oh, and happy blog-a-versary!
Those menus are so fancy! You’re so creative! =)
A lovely idea, Faith! And your sand dollar tablecloth is adorable! It sounds like it will be a delicious menu- and so nice you have it printed up like that!
And Happy 1st Blogoversary, Faith! And many more to come!
What a special tradition! I really love that you create such a lovely menu and those linens are just beautiful! I love anything beachy! Happy Bloggy Anniversary. I always look forward to hopping over here to see your culinary creations. Keep up the good work! ;)
That is the best idea ever! I love that you even print & laminate the menus and match the table linens to the theme. Spectacular. It’s funny, my husband’s family has an annual outdoor potluck picnic to celebrate mother’s day but there is no father’s day celebration. I’ve been complaining about that for a while b/c unlike your celebration being a parent’s day, this really is just for the mothers! All the mother’s get to get their food first and last year they had roses for all the women. I find it unfair and wish we had a bigger place so we could invite his family over here for Father’s Day. Or maybe I’ll just have to use my powers of persuasion (AKA cake and cookies–lol) to convince someone else to hold it at their house. :) Anyway, congrats on 1 year–I can’t believe it’s only been one! Just look at your gorgeous blog and all your faithful readers–you are amazing.
Congrats! Only 1 year? And you’re already a freaking huge success, Faith! thank YOU for blogging! You’ve been such a joy to read, truly!
