December 1, 2020 by Faith 1 Comment

Soft cake that’s aromatic with warm spices and brown sugar is swirled up with a rich, creamy maple cinnamon frosting to make this Gingerbread Cake Roll recipe something truly festive and special.

I’ve always loved those pretty roll cakes, the ones that look like a giant Swiss roll (or Ho Hos or Yodels…whatever you want to call them!). You slice into them and they have beautiful swirls of cake and frosting.…

Chocolate Hazelnut Cake

Chocolate Hazelnut Cake Recipe on White Cake Stand

Rich and dense with deep nutty chocolate flavor, this Chocolate Hazelnut Cake looks like it came from a bakery. But you won’t believe how easy it is to make at home! Did you know that September is the biggest birthday month of year? I had no idea until just recently! But with my birthday on September 30 (shout-out to my fellow Libras!), I thought this was pretty interesting....

Chocolate Zucchini Cake Recipe

August 5, 2020 by Faith 18 Comments

This Chocolate Zucchini Cake Recipe is moist and rich with a deep chocolate flavor; you’d never guess it has 3 whole zucchinis! When I was dreaming up this cake I had a decadent chocolate cake in mind. Something really indulgent…sinful, even....

Healthy Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe (Paleo)

Healthy Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe in White Mug on Wooden Table

This paleo Healthy Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe has rich chocolaty flavor and great texture! It’s saved me when I just want a little something sweet that’s fast without eating junk food. Like I mentioned when I told you about my Chocolate Cupcakes for Two, I’m kind-of particular about my cake. (As Mike likes to tell me, I’m kind-of particular about a lot of food-related stuff, but that remains to be proven and is an entirely different discussion for another day.) Anyway. I don’t think there is anything more disappointing than seeing an absolutely stunning cake and then sinking your teeth into what you think will be […]...

Yellow Cupcakes with Chocolate Frosting for Two

April 17, 2020 by Faith 13 Comments

Yellow Cupcakes with Chocolate Frosting for Two are moist with a buttery vanilla flavor and are perfect for when you need just a little something sweet! Celebrations in general and weddings in particular call for cake. It’s just one of those unwritten laws of the universe. But sometimes just a random Tuesday calls for cupcakes too. Or maybe it’s New Year’s Eve and it’s just you and your sweetie ringing in the New Year at home....

Blueberry Coffee Cake Recipe

Crumble-Topped Blueberry Buttermilk Coffee Cake Metal Background Front View

This Blueberry Coffee Cake Recipe features bursts of sweet/tart blueberries in a rich, yet fluffy buttery vanilla cake. Earlier this summer my mom came down to Florida to visit. When mom comes into town, there are two things that I typically do: 1) Deep clean things that I typically overlook (like outside windows and inside closets). 2) Take stock of what’s in my fridge/freezer/pantry, and what homemade treats I want to have on hand....

Gingerbread Snack Cake with Earl Grey Glaze

December 12, 2016 by Faith 3 Comments

Gingerbread Snack Cake with Earl Grey Glaze is full of Christmas-y flavor and is the perfect thing to accompany a steaming cup of holiday tea. Closing my eyes and tipping my head back slightly, I inhale deeply. I smell a crispness in the air; faintly woodsmoke, pine trees, and a richly spiced sweet aroma. At that my eyes pop open and a longing for gingerbread hits me; I know it won’t be long before one graces my kitchen. That was two weeks ago, and I couldn’t hold out any longer. And anyway, I’ve been working on perfecting my gingerbread recipe since last winter, and it’s high time […]...

Chai-Spiced Spaghetti Squash (or Pumpkin) Crumble-Topped Loaf Cake

October 7, 2016 by Faith 2 Comments

Chai-Spiced Spaghetti Squash (or Pumpkin) Crumble-Topped Loaf Cake is moist and dense and full of warm spices. Sometimes the best things in life come about by accident (recipes included!). Or at least out of a desire to use what we have on hand, like this bread....

Gluten-Free Coconut Almond Flour Cake (Inspired by Middle Eastern Cake Harissa)

January 25, 2016 by Faith 14 Comments

This dense, moist, and sticky sweet Gluten-Free Coconut Almond Flour Cake is subtly scented with rose water (or vanilla, if you prefer). It was inspired by the Middle Eastern Cake Harissa, Basbousa, or Namoura. If it snowed where you live over the weekend, I hope you stayed safe and warm and had the chance to enjoy the snow. Or at least bake something delicious! Mike and I are in DC and we’ve been hunkered down since Friday enjoying the snow. This weekend we had our second snowfall, which was actually a doozy: winter storm Jonas! Being from Buffalo, I am in my element. Although we […]...

Gluten-Free Cherry Almond Cake with Rosemary Vanilla Bean Buttercream {A Downton Abbey-Inspired Wedding Cake}

January 13, 2016 by Faith 4 Comments

Gluten-Free Cherry Almond Cake with Rosemary Vanilla Bean Buttercream makes a lovely winter cake that’s fit for a simple wedding, or simply dessert for a family supper. Note that this post is not sponsored in any way, nor is it affiliated with Downton Abbey! It is dedicated to Downton fans, as well as all fans of cake. Does that just about cover everyone? ;) Love in many forms comes and goes, a fact of life that we’ve seen over and over again in Downton Abbey. There’s been a lot of heartbreak on this show; Sybil and Tom Branson, Edith and Michael Gregson, Mary and Matthew, […]...

I finally got to cross off a huge item on my to-do I finally got to cross off a huge item on my to-do list! Do you remember my other blog Healthy Sweet Eats? Until today, the last time I posted there was February 2020! I even had content ready, recipes developed and photographed, and I have absolutely no excuse for myself lol. 😱🙈😅

More than just wanting to get back into posting regularly there, I wanted to give that space a fresh new look! I'm pretty thrilled that today it's done (with just a couple very minor decorative tweaks I still want to make). 💗

Not only does Healthy Sweet Eats have a fresh new face, but today I shared my recipe for #sugarfree Berry Sorbet 🍓🫐🍒, which uses frozen berries and comes together in just 5 minutes for the most delicious dose of antioxidants I've ever had.

Take a peek at the redesign and let me know what you think! 😘 Find this recipe on my other blog Healthy Sweet Eats (the direct link is in my link tree in my profile) --> https://www.healthysweeteats.com/sugar-free-berry-sorbet-recipe/

This year I made a new charoset recipe for tonight This year I made a new charoset recipe for tonight’s #seder! In addition to apple, nuts, and cinnamon, it’s heavy on the apricot and I think it’s my favorite version yet. 🥰 And by that I mean it’s good enough to enjoy year-round and not just save for #passover. I will definitely be sharing the recipe on my blog soon. 😘 #chagsemeach #pesach #pesach2021 #dayenu #foodstyling #foodphotography
This really isn't the prettiest dish. 🙈 But it' This really isn't the prettiest dish. 🙈 But it's nourishing and uncomplicated, mostly cabbage and ground beef and a few other veggies along with a couple spices. It's #paleo and easy to make #lowcarb and #ketofriendly. And it doesn't need a lot of time; just 10 minutes of prep time and 20 minutes to cook. The best part is, it's so much more delicious than you might think! What it lacks in looks, it definitely makes up for in other ways. 🥰 Find my Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls recipe on @anediblemosaic --> https://www.anediblemosaic.com/unstuffed-cabbage-rolls-recipe/

These are supposed to be French Crullers, but as y These are supposed to be French Crullers, but as you can see they look nothing like they're supposed to! 🙈😁 I'd call the recipe a flop in that sense, except for 2 things: 1) they still taste great (swipe through to the last photo showing their pillow-y interior), and 2) I made them on a Zoom call together with my dear friend Evelyene (@cultureatz). Eve and I virtually met around the time we both started blogging (she lives in Montreal), which was over a decade ago (it's crazy to think how fast time flies!).

When we first met in real life last year before the pandemic hit, it was an instant connection. It was lots of laughs, local exploration, good food, great conversation, and she even brought me bagels from her hometown! She's a kindred soul. 🥰❤️ Since then we've stayed connected and have spent a few afternoons cooking together. We've made Russian dumplings called Pelmeni and we had a holiday cake-off where I made a Gingerbread Roll Cake and Eve made a Pumpkin Roll Cake.

She and I used the same recipe for French Crullers and it didn't work as expected for either of us (just wait until you see how Evelyne's turned out, they're completely different from mine!), but still I'd call it a success.

I think this delicious disaster deserves to be commemorated, so I wanted to style and photograph them. Even though the prop styling is minimal, it's an eclectic grouping:

1) Background: Scrap marble at a floor tile store in Jacksonville, Florida. The lady was awesome, she told me to look around and take any scrap tile I could use.
2) Cake stand (swipe through to see it better): I got this at my favorite ceramics store in Paris, France called @astierdevillatte in May 2015.
3) Espresso cups: Seller @madhouseceramics on @etsy.
4) Small spoons: Seller Ann Cutting from ceramicpix on @etsy.
5) Espresso: My favorite espresso @lavazzausa.
