December 21, 2020 by Faith Leave a Comment

These Eggnog Cookies are flavored with eggnog, laced with nutmeg, and are soft and chewy inside and crispy outside. Whip up the whole batch in just over 30 minutes for the perfect last-minute addition to your cookie tray!

I don’t know about you, but every year I’m left with half a jug or so of eggnog wondering how to use it.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the festive flavor of eggnog. There’s just something about its rich, creamy texture and sweet, nutmeg-scented flavor that says holiday time.…

Russian Tea Cakes (aka Snowball Cookies)

December 16, 2020 by Faith 138 Comments

Snowball Cookies in Cookie Tin with Wax Paper

Russian Tea Cakes are rich and buttery cookies with a texture similar to shortbread. They’re quick and easy to make and very festive coated in powdered sugar, which looks like snow! For the last day of my 7 Days of Festive Holiday Treats even, I wanted to share a cookie from my childhood. My mom has made Russian Tea Cakes/Snowball Cookies every Christmas for as long as I can remember. Which, oddly enough, has nothing to do with the fact that my family is Russian on my dad’s side and “Russian” is in the title of these cookies. (And I have no idea whether these […]...

Gingersnap Cookies Recipe (aka Gingersnaps)

December 10, 2020 by Faith Leave a Comment

Gingersnap Cookie Recipe on White Snowflake Plate

Just like the name says, Gingersnap Cookies are rich with ginger and spice flavor and should be crispy enough to “snap” when they break. Sweetened with brown sugar and aromatic with warm spices, these satisfyingly crunchy Gingersnaps are a festive addition to a holiday cookie tray. Before I moved away from Buffalo, my mom, my sister, and I had a holiday tradition. A couple times a week in December we’d get together for an afternoon at one of our houses. We’d brew a pot of seasonal tea, sometime like peppermint, apple pie, or gingerbread, and munch on cookies as we chatted....

Slice and Bake Butter Toffee Shortbread Cookies

November 28, 2016 by Faith 10 Comments

These easy Slice and Bake Butter Toffee Shortbread Cookies are rich and buttery, and perfect for holiday baking or to have along with your afternoon coffee. Shortbread purists look away because you probably won’t want to see this, lol. Toffee bits are definitely not a component of classic shortbread, but they add a salted caramel-like flavor that takes these cookies over the top....

Mini Maple-Cinnamon-Walnut Turnover Cookies

November 1, 2012 by Faith 20 Comments

This year I wanted to come up with a healthier holiday cookie that doesn’t necessarily taste healthy. Something that I could serve to my family for dessert along with tea and coffee at one of my parents’ family dinners and have people be satisfied with dessert – not left wanting something else. I’ve been in the mood for Ma’amoul, which are Middle Eastern filled cookies. Perhaps the most common filling for these cookies is dates, but my mother-in-law also makes versions with walnuts and pistachios. For the walnut, she makes two different flavors: 1) cinnamon and 2) rose and orange blossom water-scented. The cinnamon-walnut are […]...

Snickercrinkle Cookies

March 16, 2012 by Faith 29 Comments

A combination of snickerdoodles and molasses crinkles, these Snickercrinkle Cookies have the texture of molasses crinkles (flat cookies that are crispy outside, but soft and chewy inside), and the flavor of snickerdoodles (buttery, cinnamon-y, and slightly tangy because of the cream of tartar). Last holiday season I went to a cookie exchange. Before going, I knew that all the classic favorites would be there (like peanut butter kisses, frosted cut-out cookies, hello dollies, Russian tea cakes, jam thumbprints, and all kinds of fudge), but I wanted to bring something different. I searched online, in numerous cookbooks, and even in my mom’s recipe box, but I didn’t […]...

Molasses Crinkles Cookies (Chewy Molasses Cookies)

September 23, 2011 by Faith 30 Comments

Richly spiced with ginger, cinnamon, and cloves these chewy Molasses Crinkles Cookies are perfect for fall baking. And they’re a lovely addition to a holiday cookie platter! I once slept for 23 hours straight. It was crazy…I woke up and had lost almost a whole day of my life! A solid 6 hours is typically all my body needs to feel refreshed, but on that occasion there were special circumstances....
