Special days require cake for breakfast, like birthdays or holidays.

Other days (you know those cold, dark, or stormy winter days), the allure of cake for breakfast is the only thing that will get you out of bed in the morning.…

Pumpkin Spice Granola Recipe

September 9, 2020 by Faith 41 Comments

This healthy homemade Pumpkin Spice Granola Recipe is sweetly spiced, and perfect for quick breakfasts on busy mornings. And it’s vegan and gluten free! I try not to, but every time my pantry granola stash runs low I have a strange sense of urgency to hurry up and make a new batch.   For some strange reason granola has that effect on me, lol. I guess I just love having it around!...

Oatmeal Muffins Recipe

May 4, 2020 by Faith 27 Comments

This Oatmeal Muffins Recipe combines heart-healthy ingredients like oats and olive oil into muffins that are just sweet enough, aromatic with vanilla, and have a tender crumb. I make a ridiculous amount of muffins. Muffins are the perfect thing to whip up when you want to use up a little bit of coconut milk. Or the last 1/4 cup of a few different kinds of nuts or dried fruit. Or if you have an apple or banana that is past its prime, and isn’t good for much else except baking....

Irish Oatmeal with Hot Buttered Cinnamon Apples

January 20, 2020 by Faith 109 Comments

This recipe for Irish Oatmeal with Hot Buttered Cinnamon Apples is the perfect motivation to get out of bed on a chilly morning. And bonus, I share my best tip for how to make Irish oats FAST! During the cooler months, there’s nothing better than waking up to a warm and hearty bowl of oatmeal....

Chewy Cinnamon Pecan Brown Butter Oatmeal Cookies

June 10, 2019 by Faith 2 Comments

Overhead View of Chewy Cinnamon Pecan Brown Butter Oatmeal Cookies with Glass of Milk

Chewy Cinnamon Pecan Brown Butter Oatmeal Cookies have nutty, caramel flavor notes and a lovely balance of chewy and crispy textures. I went through a phase where I loved chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. I’d add just a pinch of cinnamon (because it’s a classic addition to oatmeal cookies), and use extra brown sugar to give the cookies caramel notes. With a little flaky sea salt sprinkled on top (like my Small Batch Bakery Style Chocolate Chip Cookies), they had a balanced flavor profile and were completely addictive....

Strawberry and Coconut Cream Overnight Oatmeal Parfaits

August 19, 2016 by Faith 8 Comments

Strawberry and Coconut Cream Overnight Oatmeal Parfaits are perfect for grabbing on-the-go for breakfast or dessert. People who know me know are always shocked to hear that I went through a hoarding phase as a kid. It’s true though; I used to have what I called “collections” of basically random junk, including everything from rocks, to seashells, to buttons, to scruffy Barbies that were past their prime. I rarely wanted to get rid of anything, no matter how ugly or nonfunctional it was....

Savory Oatmeal Breakfast Bowls with Smoky Garlic Greens and Chipotle-Honey Vinaigrette

January 18, 2016 by Faith 14 Comments

Savory Oatmeal Breakfast Bowls with Smoky Garlic Greens and Chipotle-Honey Vinaigrette is a delicious way to get in a serving of whole grains and vegetables early in the day! I’m really not fussy about my oats. I’ll take them just about any way I can get them: savory or sweet, whipped, steel-cut, made into granola, baked into muffins, and of course in cookie form. But one day I stumbled on a way of making oats that was a bit of a revelation for me....

Savory Oatmeal

July 18, 2012 by Faith 24 Comments

I have absolutely nothing to say for myself.  I first saw a recipe for savory oatmeal on Penny De Los Santos’ blog going on two years ago.  Two years it took me to try it for myself. (Bottom line, I need to start working through my “to-make” recipe list faster.  The problem is, once I finally make something and realize how amazing it is, it’s hard to keep it out of regular rotation.  And thus continues the vicious cycle of not working through my list.)...

Butterscotch Oatmeal Cookies (aka Oatmeal Scotchies)

September 9, 2011 by Faith 27 Comments

Butterscotch Oatmeal Cookies on White Plate on Orange Fabric

Butterscotch Oatmeal Cookies (also called Oatmeal Scotchies and Oatmeal Scotch Chippers) are a delicious pairing of sweet butterscotch chips, nutty walnuts, and hearty oats! Another summer gone, and gosh, it went fast! I remember as a kid, summers seemed to be never-ending. I’d spend hours each day riding my bike, swimming, or exploring, only surfacing to eat and sleep....

Bananas Foster Oats

March 18, 2011 by Faith 23 Comments

Bananas Foster Oats turns a classic dessert into a healthy breakfast! Ok, I confess…I made this recipe a long time ago. (Actually, I made it recently too, but that’s because I make it all the time; I took these pictures when I made this a really long time ago.) At the time I felt like I had just posted a whole slew of oatmeal recipes, and lest you all see me for the oatmeal junkie I am, I was planning to withhold this recipe for a few weeks in hopes that you wouldn’t catch on to my oatmeal addiction. (And yes, now I’ve gone and […]...

I finally got to cross off a huge item on my to-do I finally got to cross off a huge item on my to-do list! Do you remember my other blog Healthy Sweet Eats? Until today, the last time I posted there was February 2020! I even had content ready, recipes developed and photographed, and I have absolutely no excuse for myself lol. 😱🙈😅

More than just wanting to get back into posting regularly there, I wanted to give that space a fresh new look! I'm pretty thrilled that today it's done (with just a couple very minor decorative tweaks I still want to make). 💗

Not only does Healthy Sweet Eats have a fresh new face, but today I shared my recipe for #sugarfree Berry Sorbet 🍓🫐🍒, which uses frozen berries and comes together in just 5 minutes for the most delicious dose of antioxidants I've ever had.

Take a peek at the redesign and let me know what you think! 😘 Find this recipe on my other blog Healthy Sweet Eats (the direct link is in my link tree in my profile) --> https://www.healthysweeteats.com/sugar-free-berry-sorbet-recipe/

This year I made a new charoset recipe for tonight This year I made a new charoset recipe for tonight’s #seder! In addition to apple, nuts, and cinnamon, it’s heavy on the apricot and I think it’s my favorite version yet. 🥰 And by that I mean it’s good enough to enjoy year-round and not just save for #passover. I will definitely be sharing the recipe on my blog soon. 😘 #chagsemeach #pesach #pesach2021 #dayenu #foodstyling #foodphotography
This really isn't the prettiest dish. 🙈 But it' This really isn't the prettiest dish. 🙈 But it's nourishing and uncomplicated, mostly cabbage and ground beef and a few other veggies along with a couple spices. It's #paleo and easy to make #lowcarb and #ketofriendly. And it doesn't need a lot of time; just 10 minutes of prep time and 20 minutes to cook. The best part is, it's so much more delicious than you might think! What it lacks in looks, it definitely makes up for in other ways. 🥰 Find my Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls recipe on @anediblemosaic --> https://www.anediblemosaic.com/unstuffed-cabbage-rolls-recipe/

These are supposed to be French Crullers, but as y These are supposed to be French Crullers, but as you can see they look nothing like they're supposed to! 🙈😁 I'd call the recipe a flop in that sense, except for 2 things: 1) they still taste great (swipe through to the last photo showing their pillow-y interior), and 2) I made them on a Zoom call together with my dear friend Evelyene (@cultureatz). Eve and I virtually met around the time we both started blogging (she lives in Montreal), which was over a decade ago (it's crazy to think how fast time flies!).

When we first met in real life last year before the pandemic hit, it was an instant connection. It was lots of laughs, local exploration, good food, great conversation, and she even brought me bagels from her hometown! She's a kindred soul. 🥰❤️ Since then we've stayed connected and have spent a few afternoons cooking together. We've made Russian dumplings called Pelmeni and we had a holiday cake-off where I made a Gingerbread Roll Cake and Eve made a Pumpkin Roll Cake.

She and I used the same recipe for French Crullers and it didn't work as expected for either of us (just wait until you see how Evelyne's turned out, they're completely different from mine!), but still I'd call it a success.

I think this delicious disaster deserves to be commemorated, so I wanted to style and photograph them. Even though the prop styling is minimal, it's an eclectic grouping:

1) Background: Scrap marble at a floor tile store in Jacksonville, Florida. The lady was awesome, she told me to look around and take any scrap tile I could use.
2) Cake stand (swipe through to see it better): I got this at my favorite ceramics store in Paris, France called @astierdevillatte in May 2015.
3) Espresso cups: Seller @madhouseceramics on @etsy.
4) Small spoons: Seller Ann Cutting from ceramicpix on @etsy.
5) Espresso: My favorite espresso @lavazzausa.
