Vanilla-Scented Sweet Potato Casserole with Toasted Hazelnut Streusel Topping {Paleo}

November 21, 2014 by Faith 16 Comments

I’m calling this a side dish, but anyone who wants to can feel free to call me out on that. I think (it’s at least arguable) that this could also pass for a mighty fine dessert....

Lemon Almond Cake Recipe (Paleo)

May 2, 2014 by Faith 6 Comments

This paleo Lemon Almond Cake Recipe has a dense, but moist and tender crumb, and is sweetly aromatic with vanilla and lemon. When I was younger, I hated any and all lemon-flavored desserts with a passion. Lemon bars, lemon meltaway cookies, and even lemon meringue pie were all on my “avoid at all costs list”. (But oddly enough, I was a big fan of super sour lemon-flavored WarHeads candy – does anyone else remember those? Incidentally, I consider this proof positive that there is no rhyme or reason to kids’ tastes.)...

5-Ingredient Vanilla-Scented Toasted Coconut-Cashew Mix {Paleo}

January 6, 2014 by Faith 27 Comments

Some things drive you completely wild with desire as they cook. Roast chicken. Apple pie. Any recipe that starts out with sautéed onion and garlic. Chocolate chip cookies. And I can say with confidence that this recipe should be added to the list....

Homemade Vanilla Powdered Coffee Creamer

December 18, 2013 by Faith 41 Comments

I have been sitting on this recipe for like a year now. A while ago (long before Mike and I moved to Kuwait), I was rumaging through cleaning my pantry and came across a gigantic box of nonfat instant powdered milk way in the back. Don’t ask. I was almost hoping it would be past its expiration date so I wouldn’t have to think of some way to use it, but alas, fate had other plans for me....

Vanilla-Cardamom Pear Hand Pies

November 15, 2013 by Faith 22 Comments

I’m one of those people. You know, the people who get an idea stuck in their head and can’t sit still until it’s not just an idea anymore. I need something tangible to come from it. Like the time I woke up with the idea of snack cake stuck in my head. It didn’t take long before my Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Snack Cake came into fruition. Unlike that cake, these little hand-held treats took a bit more thought. All I knew was that “hand pie” was stuck in my head like glue and the idea wasn’t going anywhere until they were made....

Thick & Creamy Vanilla-Pistachio Drink

March 8, 2013 by Faith 19 Comments

This drink is incredibly rich; if you’ve ever had a European hot chocolate, the thickness of this drink will probably remind you of that. But hot chocolate wasn’t my inspiration…I had sahlab in mind!...

Fiori di Sicilia-Inspired Syrup

February 8, 2013 by Faith 11 Comments

Last weekend I had big plans for the gigantic bag of organic lemons that had taken up residence on the bottom shelf of my fridge. Pushing thoughts of lemon bars, lemon curd, candied lemon peel, lemon sorbet, and lemon pie out of my head, I decided on lemon marmalade. Since the title of this post wasn’t “Lemon Marmalade” you can probably guess that something went wrong along the way....

Coconut-Vanilla “Honey” Syrup {7 Days of Festive Holiday Treats}

December 13, 2012 by Faith 11 Comments

Today’s recipe for my 7 Days of Festive Holiday Treats is something that is perfect for gifting. It’s quite unique – give a festively wrapped jar of this syrup to a friend, then watch them read the label and their eyes light up as they exclaim Oooh, what is this?! The fact that it is as easy to make is it is exotic-sounding will be our little secret though....

Golden Vanilla-Fig Cake

September 10, 2012 by Faith 36 Comments

The first time I had a fresh fig was in Damascus on mine and Mike’s honeymoon. Mike and I were served a platter of fruit (it’s the standard fare served after a big meal there…not really dessert, since that comes later. More like an after-dinner treat). A few ripe, very tempting figs rested on an ornately designed silver platter. One fig was cut in half, its deep red, juicy interior exposed; it looked soft and sweet and was practically calling out to be eaten. One bite and I was sold; that was all it took to ensure I turn into a fig-crazed maniac until I […]...

Cherry-Vanilla Sour Cream Scones with Vanilla Cream Spread

August 29, 2012 by Faith 29 Comments

I have always loved tea parties. I remember being a little girl and playing make-believe tea time with my best dolls arranged around a little table. I’d wear a hat, gloves, dress, and high-heeled shoes spirited away from my mom’s closet…and of course I always gracefully (haha!) tripped all over the place because of the shoes and too long dress. I only served water and crackers, but with a very proper (at least to my five year old ears) British accent, it always felt nothing short of elegant....
