10-minute butterscotch sauce

Cream of tartar is an acid used to help prevent sugar crystallization. You can use 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice instead.

Step 1

Add the butter to a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar, salt, and cream of tartar. Don't over-stir here!

Cook until the sugar is melted and the mixture is boiling, about 1 to 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Carefully add the cream (it will bubble up), and stir to combine. Let it boil for about 3 to 5 minutes until it’s thick enough to coat the back of a wooden spoon, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. It's ready to use!
