Chop the potatoes, then boil them until tender, and drain.
Sauté the onion and garlic in butter.
Mash the potatoes with the onion/garlic mixture, sour cream, and salt and pepper.
Fold in the cheese.
Spread the potato mixture into a casserole dish and top with more cheese.
Bake, then sprinkle bacon on top, and broil.
