Buffalo  Beef on Weck

By An Edible Mosaic

It's hard to find a Kummelweck roll outside of Buffalo, but they're easy to make from Kaiser rolls, coarse salt, and caraway seed!

Pro tip

Step 1

Kummelweck rolls. Lightly brush the tops of Kaiser rolls with eggwash and sprinkle on salt and caraway seeds. Bake for 7 minutes at 325F.

Step 2

Creamy horseradish sauce. This sauce is completely optional - you can leave it off or just use prepared horseradish! But if you want to make it, mix together all ingredients in a bowl and refrigerate until serving.

Step 3

The beef. Add the beef consommé to a small saucepan over medium heat. Once simmering, add the beef (working in batches) to the liquid to warm it up, about 2 minutes.

Step 4

Assemble the sandwiches. Slice the Kimmelweck rolls in half, slather one side with horseradish sauce, and pile on the roast beef. Serve immediately, along with warm beef consommé for dipping.
