It’s officially crab season in New England.

Whether or not you live in New England, if you’re a fan of crab, I have a real treat to share with you today… (more…)

Roasted Carrot-Apple Soup {With Paprika Brown Butter}

Friday, October 19th, 2012

For about two years now I’ve been hearing the same mantra from one of my favorite foodie friends (who unfortunately isn’t a blogger – but perhaps one day!).

Come on, everyone is doing it!, she coaxed. You know you want to!

Grab some butter and don’t look back!

She’s a brown butter-pusher, all the way. (more…)

Beyond Cow’s Milk

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

My mom was a serious milk-pusher when I was growing up.  Every night at dinner she made my sister and I drink a full glass, no excuses. (She didn’t care if the milk had gotten warm because I left it to sit for half an hour after dinner…or if I promised up one side and down the other that I had already drank milk in my cereal for breakfast, plus a little carton with lunch at school.) Milk-drinking was no light matter to her, lol! These days I still get my milk, but cow’s milk isn’t my first choice for drinking.

Quail Eggs {Giveaway}

Monday, August 13th, 2012

Sometimes I wish I lived on a farm out in the country (or at least had the chance to spend a long weekend at one).  I could bask in nature, enjoy a little quiet.  (Ok, I know it’s only quiet until the animals start making noise…but I bet it beats the sound of sirens and car horns any day).  I’d wake up to birds chirping, sunshine streaming in my window, and the smell of fresh-mown grass.  Then I’d start my day with fresh milk and eggs, and maybe a loaf of country bread. Sea Island Coffee {Giveaway}

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Are you one of those people who can drink coffee any time of day?  Mike likes to joke that I drink coffee instead of warm milk at night to help me sleep…and while that isn’t exactly true, it is true that coffee doesn’t keep me awake.  I joke that it’s because every time he and I visit the Middle East we chug countless pots of Turkish coffee at all hours of the day.  :) (more…)

Skinny Caramel Hot Cocoa

Monday, January 9th, 2012

This is my new favorite mug…a gift from my very sweet mom!

The other day I was at Walmart with Mike who absolutely hates to shop.  Because of this I can only take him with me when I have a very short list…so this basically means I was running in (literally) for just a couple things and he was in the electronics department patiently waiting for me while I raced through the aisles at warp speed.  I happened to be sprinting through the baking aisle (surprisingly, they have a really extensive selection of Bob’s Red Mill products at Walmart) when I spotted a new (to me) extract:  caramel!  Of course, being the junkie I am for new products, I bought a bottle. Baked Pizza Dip & A Giveaway

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

My sister makes a pretty mean batch of stuffed shells.  A blend of herbs, spices, and three cheeses make the cheese stuffing not only incredibly cheesy (in the best kind of way), but also more flavorful than most that I’ve had.  One Sunday afternoon not too long ago, we were at my parents’ house and she was whipping up a batch for a family dinner.  It happened to be getting close to dinnertime (yet dinner was not close to being ready!) and I was in serious need of a snack. Hazelnut Cookies {Vegan & Gluten-Free} & A Bob’s Red Mill Giveaway

Sunday, November 13th, 2011

A friend recently asked me for a gluten-free recipe for cookies.  When asked what kind, he said, I don’t know…something nutty…or maybe chocolaty; definitely something that goes well with coffee!  I aim to please, and these cookies are all of the above. (more…)

Rockin’ Coffee Review & Giveaway

Monday, November 7th, 2011

My sister was always sneaking coffee when she was a kid.  My mom would never let us have it growing up (not sure if it’s true or not, but she always threatened that it would stunt our growth!), which was fine with me since I didn’t like it in the slightest.  My sister on the other hand was a little junkie for it, stealing sips or even swigs whenever she could. Maine Root’s Pumpkin Pie Soda

Friday, November 4th, 2011

As I’ve mentioned before, I love it when Mike goes grocery shopping with me.  Last time we were at Wegmans I spotted this soda and could barely contain myself.  Normally I’m not much of a soda drinker, but I’m a huge sucker for seasonal products.  Even so, I wasn’t going to buy it, but Mike insisted…isn’t he a sweetie?  ;) (more…)
