    Chocolate-Covered Marzipan Hearts

Published: Feb 13, 2011 · Modified: Apr 14, 2022 by Faith · This post may contain affiliate links · 69 Comments

Most of us agree that it just wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without chocolate…but for me, it wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without Chocolate-Covered Marzipan Hearts.  I discovered them even before I met my real Valentine (and no I don’t mean dark Swiss chocolate…I’m talking about my hubby ;) ).

Prior to finding an online Swiss chocolate reseller here in the U.S., the best chocolate I could get my hands on was Godiva, so I occasionally went there for a little sweet indulgence.  A few years ago around Valentine’s Day I happened to be at a Godiva store and saw one of their seasonal treats:  Chocolate-Covered Marzipan Hearts!  I had never had them before and curiosity got the better of me; I ended up trying one and instantly falling in love.  I’ve been making them every year for Valentine’s Day since then…and now I get to share them with my real Valentine, who also loves them.

    Chocolate-Covered Marzipan Hearts

(This is more of a method than an actual recipe…adjust amounts for how much you want to make.)

Marzipan (see here if you want to make homemade)

Couverture chocolate (I like dark, but you could use milk or a combination of both)

Shape marzipan into hearts (I did mine free-form, but you could look for a heart-shaped mold if you prefer), balls, or any shape you like.  Melt chocolate in microwave or double boiler (see here if you want to temper it).  Dip marzipan into chocolate and leave it to harden.

Wondering what to do if you have leftover chocolate? (For some reason I always seem to melt more chocolate than I need.)

Of course you could make hot chocolate.

Or make pretty little heart-shaped chocolates (just pipe little free-form hearts onto parchment paper)…

Or decorate a dessert plate with pretty Valentine’s designs (don’t be intimidated, I have the sloppiest handwriting ever and they still look decent…I’m sure your decorations will look much better than mine!)…

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

I am a marzipan stalker. I try it wherever I go all over the world. I have found a homemade recipe that is better than any I can buy in my neck of the woods - and probably equals the best out their sans making it beside a tree when almonds are fresh and in season. And with chocolate: a marriage made in heaven.
I love your free form hearts, Faith. They look more "heartfelt" and that there is love worked right into them.
Happy Heart Day to you and your hubby!
