Cherry-Almond Brown Butter Blondies with White and Dark Chocolate Chips

Cherry-Almond Brown Butter Blondies with White and Dark Chocolate Chips will make you a winner no matter what team you’re rooting for on game day!

Let’s be real here; I’m just not that into football. To me, the only legitimate reason I can think of to attend a Super Bowl party would be for the food. (Ok, and maybe for the halftime show and/or commercials.)

Being originally from Buffalo, I’m no stranger to football (and having the Bills as my hometown team might just explain my boredom with/apathy toward football). Arguably, the Bills are one of the worst (or at least the most disappointing) teams in the NFL. I have heard my dad say “we’re in a rebuilding year” every single year for as long as I can remember, lol. But what truly baffles me is that the Bills continue to have the most loyal fans ever…all over the world! I take pride in the true loyalty of Buffalonians, if nothing else.

But like I said, the Super Bowl isn’t a total loss (even if your team is); the food is always fabulous! Enter these pretty little blondies, which are fully loaded with goodies. Here I paired dried cherries with toasted almonds and both white and dark chocolate…because it just felt right. (How could I choose between white and dark chocolate for this recipe? They both go so well with cherries and almonds. I could no sooner choose a favorite football team, albeit for very different reasons.)

Total time:  45 mins
Yield: 1 (8 by 8-inch pan), about 12 servings

Cherry-Almond Brown Butter Blondies with White and Dark Chocolate Chips will make you a winner no matter what team you’re rooting for on game day!
Ingredients
  • 10 tablespoons (142 g) unsalted butter, browned and cooled slightly (see Note)
  • ¾ cup (150 g) sugar (I used Wholesome! Organic Cane Sugar)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon molasses
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup (128 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground mahlab (optional)
  • ½ cup dried cherries
  • ½ cup toasted slivered almonds
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350F; line an 8 by 8-inch baking pan with parchment paper so that it hangs over all 4 sides and you can just lift out the blondies.
  2. Whisk together the brown butter, sugar, egg, vanilla extract, molasses, and almond extract. Stir in the flour, salt, and mahlab, and then fold in the cherries, almonds, and chocolate chips.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake until golden on the outside, but still a touch doughy in the center, about 20 to 23 minutes (be careful not to overbake, as these are best gooey in the center).
  4. Cool completely before cutting.

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who attends football parties for the food only. The game rarely holds my attention. Your Blondies will be a hit at any party. Great recipe.

Wow, let me just take these images in and drool. I am a blondie eating machine, love any kind, but the chocolate and caramel versions always steal my heart. Glad you brought in the cherry here and the almond pairs so well.
To be honest with you I am the same way. Not that big into football, but love exciting big games, the entertainment and commercials. Plus, it’s a day to EAT, lots… and not always good for you things. Thanks for this one! :)

This year I made a new charoset recipe for tonight This year I made a new charoset recipe for tonight’s #seder! In addition to apple, nuts, and cinnamon, it’s heavy on the apricot and I think it’s my favorite version yet. 🥰 And by that I mean it’s good enough to enjoy year-round and not just save for #passover. I will definitely be sharing the recipe on my blog soon. 😘 #chagsemeach #pesach #pesach2021 #dayenu #foodstyling #foodphotography

I used @egglandsbest eggs in this recipe! Compared with ordinary eggs, EB's eggs have 6 times more Vitamin D, more than double the Omega-3s and vitamin B12, and 10 times more vitamin E. How can you tell you are using EB egg? Look for the “EB” stamp right on the shell. 🥚

This really isn't the prettiest dish. 🙈 But it' This really isn't the prettiest dish. 🙈 But it's nourishing and uncomplicated, mostly cabbage and ground beef and a few other veggies along with a couple spices. It's #paleo and easy to make #lowcarb and #ketofriendly. And it doesn't need a lot of time; just 10 minutes of prep time and 20 minutes to cook. The best part is, it's so much more delicious than you might think! What it lacks in looks, it definitely makes up for in other ways. 🥰 Find my Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls recipe on @anediblemosaic --> https://www.anediblemosaic.com/unstuffed-cabbage-rolls-recipe/

These are supposed to be French Crullers, but as y These are supposed to be French Crullers, but as you can see they look nothing like they're supposed to! 🙈😁 I'd call the recipe a flop in that sense, except for 2 things: 1) they still taste great (swipe through to the last photo showing their pillow-y interior), and 2) I made them on a Zoom call together with my dear friend Evelyene (@cultureatz). Eve and I virtually met around the time we both started blogging (she lives in Montreal), which was over a decade ago (it's crazy to think how fast time flies!).

When we first met in real life last year before the pandemic hit, it was an instant connection. It was lots of laughs, local exploration, good food, great conversation, and she even brought me bagels from her hometown! She's a kindred soul. 🥰❤️ Since then we've stayed connected and have spent a few afternoons cooking together. We've made Russian dumplings called Pelmeni and we had a holiday cake-off where I made a Gingerbread Roll Cake and Eve made a Pumpkin Roll Cake.

She and I used the same recipe for French Crullers and it didn't work as expected for either of us (just wait until you see how Evelyne's turned out, they're completely different from mine!), but still I'd call it a success.

I think this delicious disaster deserves to be commemorated, so I wanted to style and photograph them. Even though the prop styling is minimal, it's an eclectic grouping:

1) Background: Scrap marble at a floor tile store in Jacksonville, Florida. The lady was awesome, she told me to look around and take any scrap tile I could use.
2) Cake stand (swipe through to see it better): I got this at my favorite ceramics store in Paris, France called @astierdevillatte in May 2015.
3) Espresso cups: Seller @madhouseceramics on @etsy.
4) Small spoons: Seller Ann Cutting from ceramicpix on @etsy.
5) Espresso: My favorite espresso @lavazzausa.
