A lot of people tell me that they think of salad as summer food and soup as winter food. Not me though!…

Festive Christmas Salad Recipe

Close Up Front View of Festive Christmas Salad Recipe on Wooden Table

This festive Christmas Salad recipe is all decked out in red and green with gorgeous fruits, or what I like to think of edible ornaments, with a balanced sweet and savory flavor profile and a variety of different textures. In my family we don’t really have one dish in particular that we make every Christmas. Christmas Eve dinner is a smorgasbord of appetizers and Christmas dinner is usually something easy like roast chicken or pot roast with all the fixings. A salad of some kind is usually on the table, but it’s rare that it’s festive red and green. I think I might change that! […]...

Roasted Winter Squash Salad with Spiced Walnuts, Red Currants, and Pomegranate Balsamic Vinaigrette with Cornish Hens and Decorative Salt and Pepper Shakers on Wooden Table

Roasted Winter Squash Salad with Spiced Walnuts, Red Currants, and Pomegranate Balsamic Vinaigrette is a beautiful way to highlight the earthy, sweet, and subtly nutty flavor of roasted squash. Last but certainly not least when it comes to my holiday meal for four is this salad recipe I’m sharing. It’s quite a simple salad, but there’s something about winter squash in general and delicata squash in particular that always wins my vote....

Persian Inspired Cornish Hens with Pomegranate Walnut Sauce with Golden Pilaf on Wooden Table

Persian-Inspired Cornish Hens with Pomegranate Walnut Sauce is all about that rich, velvety, nuanced sauce. It’s slow food cooked with love, and perfect for a unique twist on holiday entertaining.  This year I decided I wanted to feature a beautiful holiday meal that serves just four people. It’s equally appropriate for Thanksgiving or Christmas, or any time you’re having an intimate festive gathering....

Roasted Delicata Squash Salad with Cinnamon-Toasted Hazelnuts and Pomegranate {Gluten-Free}

November 14, 2016 by Faith 6 Comments

Gluten-free Roasted Delicata Squash with Cinnamon-Toasted Hazelnuts and Pomegranate is a beautiful way to celebrate the flavors of the season. Of all the possible addictions that people battle, I think winter squash might just take the cake for strangest. But really, I admit 100% that I’m an addict and I may or may not need help, lol. Delicata squash in particular is my weakness....

Pineapple Black Bean Salad with Pomegranate Arils and Coconut Chips {Vegan}

February 15, 2016 by Faith 5 Comments

Vegan Pineapple Black Bean Salad with Pomegranate Arils and Coconut Chips is a delicious balance of sweet and savory flavors! Mike and I are currently in London, on a quick little whirlwind of a trip. Before we left when we were putting together a list of things we wanted to see, I asked Mike what he was looking forward to most. His reply: the food. Yeah, that sounds about right....

Jewel-Toned Sweet and Savory Basmati Rice Pilaf with Pomegranate

December 17, 2015 by Faith 12 Comments

Jewel-Toned Sweet and Savory Basmati Rice Pilaf with Pomegranate is an impressive-looking side dish that’s easy to make and pairs well with just about anything! I grew up with traditional holiday side dishes like mashed potatoes, stuffing, candied yams, and green bean casserole. They were ubiquitous at every holiday dinner, and I (more or less) enjoyed them all. These are the classics that, for me, harken back to my first holiday memories, so they’ll always feel special, but now I’m ready for a little bit of a change. Or at the very least, I’m ready to incorporate a couple fresh new side dish ideas into […]...

Cardamom Saffron Cake {Inspired by the Kuwaiti Cake Qors Oqaily}

March 2, 2015 by Faith 11 Comments

When Mike and I returned to the U.S. last July after spending a year in Kuwait, it was surprisingly unceremonious for us, which felt weird because spending a year there was definitely life-changing for me in so many ways....

Jicama, Apple, and Pomegranate Salad with Raspberry Dijon Vinaigrette

February 6, 2015 by Faith 12 Comments

The other day we ordered sandwiches from a cute little local café. It bears mentioning that they served my turkey wrap with extra onion without me even having to ask…and it’s not like they knew me (as the onion-loving weirdo I am) because it was my first time there! I felt like I won the onion lotto or something. (It’s the little things, lol.)...

Bulgur Wheat Salad with Pomegranate + Walnut

October 4, 2013 by Faith 12 Comments

The first time I made this salad was last summer for a cookout at my parents’ house before Mike and I left for Kuwait. I wanted to bring a hearty salad, and I was trying to clean out my pantry and fridge when I found a bag of bulgur wheat in the pantry and a bottle of pomegranate molasses in the fridge. For some reason I thought combining the two in one dish was the best idea ever. As strange as this pairing might sound, it is pretty fantastic....
